OpenCV on the Cell

OpenCV is an open source computer vision library developed by Intel. The library covers various "vision computing" functions, including object identification, segmentation and recognition, face recognition, gesture recognition, motion tracking and etc etc. The Cell/B.E. processor is considered suited to the vision-computing, and Fixstars started a new Web site "OpenCV on the Cell", which is intended to provide useful technical information about optimization of OpenCV library for the Sony PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) Linux.

OpenCVはIntelにより開発されたコンピュータビジョン系のオープンソースライブラリです。OpenCVは物体識別、セグメンテーション、顔検出、ジェスチャー検出、モーショントラッキングなどのさまざまな機能をカバーしています。Cell/B.E.プロセッサはこのようなビジョンコンピューティング処理に向いていると考えられており、フィックスターズは"OpenCV on the Cell"としてPS3上でのOpenCVの最適化情報を公開しています。

CTK is an open-source C/C++ toolkit library for the Cell/B.E. processor. CTK is intended to accelerate Cell software development by providing various utility functions that most Cell programmers would need. For example CTK includes APIs for synchronized queues and lightweight SPE overlay tasks, both are significantly useful functions for efficient parallel programming on Cell. CTK provides a set of common APIs for libspe, libspe2 and Toshiba's SPE library, and therefore virtually enables "write-once, run everywhere" concept over several multiple Cell development environments.

CTKはオープンソースのCell/B.E.のためのC/C++ツールキットライブラリです。CTKはCell上のプログラミングにおいて必要と思われる各種ユーティリティを提供しており、Cellソフトウェア開発の効率を高めることを目的としています。例えば、CTKはコア間のメッセージングに気軽に使える同期キューや軽量な並列実行単位であるSPEタスクの機構を提供しています。また、CTKはlibspe, libspe2および東芝のSPEライブラリ環境のために共通のAPIセットを提供しており、複数のCell開発環境において実質的な "write-once, run everywhere" を実現します。
